Motor City Riot Announces: You Probably Won’t Get Murdered
September 19 to 21, 2014
The time has finally come.
Motor City Riot is proud to invite moped clubs, friends, and adventurous souls from all over to our first-ever moped rally, You Probably Won’t Get Murdered. Whether you’ve heard the stories about Detroit or you’re just looking for an excuse to put some miles on your bike, we’re here to show you the city we know and love… one neighborhood, one back road, and one questionable life decision at a time.
We’ve packed the entire weekend with rides, food, music, and enough two-stroke smoke to keep the mosquitoes away. Don’t expect to spend much time hanging out in your hotel room. We’ve got better plans for you.
Friday: Welcome to Detroit
Kick off the weekend by checking in with everyone at UFO Factory, our Friday headquarters. Located just across the street from the hotel, this legendary neighborhood spot will serve as our registration, meet-and-greet, and opening party. Grab a drink, catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and get ready for a weekend you’ll probably remember.
Saturday: The Long Ride
We’ll start Saturday morning the proper way with breakfast at the Motor City Riot clubhouse, the Old Nasty Yacht Club, just a mile from the hotel.
Once everyone is fueled up, it’s time for the main event.
Our approximately 50-mile ride will take you through some of Detroit’s most unique scenery. We’ll weave through the city’s industrial backbone, cruise the winding roads of Rouge Park, explore one of Detroit’s historic neighborhoods, and stop for a BBQ and cold drinks at the legendary Theater Bizarre grounds before heading south through Hamtramck and finishing with a buzz through downtown Detroit.
This isn’t just another rally ride. It’s our chance to show off the Detroit we know.
After everyone gets a chance to catch their breath, the party moves to Detroit Moped Works for a mini block party. We’ll have cold kegs flowing, a booty DJ keeping the music going, and our neighbors at El Precinct hosting a BYOB DIY punk show. Bounce between the garage, the party, and the music until your fuel tank, liver, or bedtime wins the argument.
Sunday: One Last Adventure
If you’re still standing Sunday morning, we’ve got one more ride waiting.
We’ll head to Detroit’s historic Eastern Market for a proper tailgate breakfast before visiting the iconic Heidelberg Project, one of the city’s most recognizable outdoor art installations.
We’ll wrap up the weekend the only way that makes sense: a few laps around the notorious Thunderdrome before everyone points their mopeds toward home.
Come See What Detroit Is Really Like
Detroit has always had a reputation. We figured it was about time people came to see it for themselves.
Expect incredible riding, unforgettable people, plenty of laughs, and a weekend full of the kind of stories that only happen when a bunch of mopeds invade a city.
Pack your sleeping bag, bring your running bike, and join us for the very first You Probably Won’t Get Murdered.
We promise you’ll leave with more miles, more friends, and probably all of your belongings.
See you in Detroit.
