New to Motor City Riot? You do not need to know everything—or have the fastest, cleanest moped—to come meet us. This guide explains what to expect and how to prepare for your first public ride with MCR.
Before you leave home
- Confirm the meeting place and the actual kickstands-up time.
- Fill your tank and bring the correct two-stroke oil if your bike requires premix.
- Check your tires, brakes, lights, chain or belt, fuel flow, and fasteners.
- Charge your phone and save the event or contact information.
- Check the weather and dress for conditions after sunset.
What to bring
Required basics
- A legal, running moped
- A helmet
- Fuel and oil
- Your phone
Strongly recommended
- Basic hand tools
- Spare spark plug
- Water
- An extra layer for the ride home
What happens at the meetup
- Arrive early. Give yourself time to meet people, fuel up, and handle small mechanical issues.
- Listen to the rider meeting. The route, stops, hand signals, riding order, and any special concerns will be explained.
- Ride predictably. Hold your line, leave room, communicate hazards, and avoid passing unless directed.
- Look out for the group. Keep the rider behind you in sight and communicate if somebody stops.
Our expectations
Respect the people riding with you, the neighborhoods we pass through, and the places that welcome us. Ride within your ability, follow the direction of the ride leader and support riders, and never pressure someone into riding faster than they are comfortable.
If you are unsure whether your bike is appropriate for an event, have accessibility questions, or want to introduce yourself beforehand, send us a message. We would much rather answer a question before the ride than have you stay home because you were uncertain.
